Last March 8, 2011 there was the ROC Awards Night and prior to than night were the shows of the four participating groups in the ROC Playfest named Distance.
Dulaang ROC is a student-organization of the University of Asia and the Pacific, the ROC Playfest is held every year as an opportunity for students to become new writers, performers and budding theatre enthusiasts to put up a play and present it to the public. It is then judged and they earn awards for their hardwork.
I'm was a mentor to the group Tatlong Hakbang and the play that they produced was entitled " Manu is now following you". It was written by Mio Borromeo and directed by Paolo Ollero.
The story is about how two bloggers Josie, a writer, and Manu, a photographer, meet under the most unusual of circumstances, they meet on the internet not knowing each other's real identity. By some wierd twist of fate they happen to be next door neighbors separated by a wall and brought together by a broken air conditioner in Josie's unit. From there the play unravels further into new revelations, until finally they come to realize that in a digital world there is more than just a wall separating them.
The cast was young but they were able to work together as an "ensemble" and put out a good play. Of course there were some hits and misses, but that's how they were able to learn from their mistakes and grow from them.
They won 6 awards!
